Kidney stones, is one of the most painful of the urologic disorders. It is one of the most commonly found disorders of the urinary tract. Men tend to be affected more frequently than women. For men it starts as they enter their 40's and for women its prevalence rises as they enter their 50's. In most cases kidney stones pass out from the body without any interference of a doctor. But stones that cause long lasting symptoms or other complications may be treated by various techniques, which mostly is surgery.
The urinary system consists of the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra. The kidneys are two bean-shaped organs located below the ribs toward the middle of the back. A kidney stone is a hard mass that is developed from crystals that are separated from the urine and builds up on the inner surfaces of the kidney. Urine contains chemicals that prevent the crystals from forming but in certain cases they are not affective and stones are formed. If the crystals are tiny enough, they will pass through the urinary tract as urine unnoticed.
Kidney stones contain various combinations of chemicals such as calcium in combination with either oxalate or phosphate. Another less common type of stone known as infection stone can be caused by infection in the urinary tract. The cause of kidney stone can be certain foods or even a family history.
Symptoms:
The first symptom of a kidney stone is extreme pain, which occurs when a stone causing blockage or irritation in the flow of urine. A person feels a sharp, cramps and pain in the back and in the lower abdomen this may also leas to a feeling of nausea and vomiting. To reduce or treat kidney stones is to drink plenty of water that helps the stones to pass through by diluting the concentration of cystine. It is important to change one's eating habits like avoiding dairy products and vegetables containing seeds and also avoid eating meat, fish and poultry. But if in severe cases surgery is recommended and prescribed medications to prevent calcium and uric acid stones.
Surgery may be needed to remove a kidney stone if it does not pass after a reasonable period of time and causes constant pain or is too large to pass on its own or blocks the flow of urine. Even in cases where there is an infection in the tract or a damaged kidney tissue or bleeding.
