What are heel spur surgical options?

What is a heel spur?

There are many confusions in the patient's mind as to the different attributes of the heel spur, however every heel pain may not be a heel spur or even there may be heel spur but there is no pain in the heels. The common idea that everyone has about heel spur is that it is a bony projection that causes pain but in fact any heel spur that causes pain is because there is damage to the soft tissue, which is located at the bottom of the foot. Heel spur is the name that is generally used for the medical condition known as the plantar fasciitis. The planter fasciitis term is like location oriented because it refers to the location of the particular muscle or ligament. Any individual is quite unaware of the way he or she uses their feet in just one single day one may take many thousand steps without being very attentive. We take our feet for granted and use them any which way we want.

Causes of heel spur

The causes of heel spur or plantar fasciitis are related to the unrestricted use of the feet and the stress and injury that results from excessive use of the feet. The feet are designed for bearing only the limited load but they are made to bear load that is not reasonable. The foot however can bear load but if it is not given enough time to recover from the excessive load then pain results and it may persist if it is subjected to more weight. This condition causes the primary and secondary plantar fasciitis, in the second condition the pain gets chronic. There are many ways to treat the heel spur that include biomechanical methods, anti-inflammatory methods, and at times surgery.

Surgical options for heel spur

Surgery is the last resort for treating plantar fasciitis when it gets worse but it involves many complications. In the surgical options for plantar fasciitis the fascia of the foot is released manually so that the pain may go away or at least decrease. The surgery is called as the plantar fasciotomies. The surgical may result into complication as the structure of the foot may change. The complications can be listed like Fallen arches, Infection, The damage to the nerves, or the lateral Column syndrome.
