A frozen shoulder is the stiffness of the tissues of the shoulder bone which make movement painful, and the patient is bound to make no movement at all of his/her shoulder. The restricted movement of the shoulder further aggravates the condition of the already stiff shoulder and the pain grows to a greater extent. The adhesive capsulitis or frozen shoulder would get better with continued movement but patients tend to make as little movement as possible due to the pain and this again makes the tissues of the shoulder get stiffer and hard. The frozen shoulder disorder becomes a major problem with individuals suffering from diabetes, stroke, heart attack, or who have had a shoulder surgery or an accident. The best preventive measure against the frozen shoulder is to keep them active as much as possible, doing regular exercises and workouts are the best ways to keep frozen shoulder at bay.

Treatment of frozen shoulder

When the doctor diagnoses the patient with a frozen shoulder by the physical examination or by arthrogram, he has to manage the pain that the patient is subjected to by using anti inflammatory drugs and he also has to restore the movement of the bone joints of the shoulder. In certain cases the doctor also has to take to surgery to reduce the pain and to maximize the shoulder movement. But many are of the opinion that the traditional medical interventions have failed to cure or relieve the frozen shoulder condition. In the traditional treatment the non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs are generally prescribed which are analgesic, and anti inflammatory which help to reduce the pain in the shoulder to make movement. The trans cutaneous electrical nerve stimulation is another medical treatment that is used traditionally for frozen shoulder, which has a battery powered unit which blocks the impulses from nerves that create pain. The use of heat in the treatment of the frozen shoulder is also generally administered, which is coupled with exercises.

Stretching exercises

The traditional approach in dealing with the frozen shoulder disorder always includes stretching exercises for the stiff shoulder to facilitate free movement of the tissues of the shoulder. The stretching and strengthening exercises are done at home with help from the physical and occupational therapist. There are many exercises to free the shrunk tissues of the shoulder. The stretching and strengthening exercises are the most traditional treatments for frozen shoulder. In the stretching exercises the patient has to lye down on the ground and has to lift his shoulders up in the air in different ways so that the shoulder tissues get loosened and relaxed
