Moisturizer plays an important role for taking care of nails. They make the nails soft and healthy. By proper use of moisturizer nails look more healthy and beautiful. No nail care product alone can give healthy nails. Following few simple guidelines can help to keep the nails looking their best.

1. Do not hurt the nails. To prevent nail damage do not use the fingernails as tools to pick, poke or pry things.
2. Do not bite the nails or pick at the cuticles. These habits can damage the nail bed.
3. Even a minor cut alongside the nail can allow bacteria or fungi to enter and cause an infection.
4. Protect the nails by wear cotton-lined rubber gloves while using soap and water for prolonged periods.
5. Perform routine nail maintenance.
6. Trim fingernails and clean under the nails daily.
7. Use a sharp manicure scissors and an emery board to smooth nail edges.
8. Never pull off hangnails as because doing so almost always results in ripping living tissue.

How to moisturize?

Moisturize the nails regularly. Nails need moisture just like the skin does. Rub lotion into the nails when moisturizing the hands. Be sure to apply a moisturizer each time after washing the hands. Moisturize the nail bed and the cuticle. While there is little in the way of medical statistics showing that moisturizing the nail bed will help nails grow, it can make cuticles look healthier and help protect nails from breaking due to a lack of moisture. If the nails are prone to crack, it could mean they need moisture and putting oil around the cuticle helps moisturize the entire nail that will reduce the occurrence of chipping, cracking and splitting.

Beware

Do not exceed hand washing and limit contact with cleaning chemicals. As healthy as it can be to wash the hands frequently, overexert it and cause heavy nails problem. If someone is in a profession where frequent hand washing is compulsory, it is recommended to use moisturizer as often as possible and rub a little extra around the cuticles several times a day. While doing housework or laundry, minimize contact with harsh chemicals, including dishwashing liquid by wearing rubber gloves whenever possible can reduce the damage in nails.
