Indoor Calisthenics

About Calisthenics:

Calisthenics is a Greek word that combines Kalos meaning beauty and sthenos meaning strength. Calisthenics has got different meanings in various parts of the world. For example in the United States Calisthenics refers to a type of exercise that consists of a variety of simple movements that is usually performed without weights or other equipments mainly for increasing the strength of the body and the flexibility that uses the body's own weight for resistance. However in the Australian continent Calisthenics refers to a competitive performing sport for the women's where girls as young as three years old can also participate. The sport mainly comprises of free arm gymnastics, aesthetics a graceful form of dance and a rhythmic folk dance and many other categories.

History of Calisthenics:

Calisthenics has its rood deeply stuck in the art of Gymnastics. Even the history of Calisthenics clearly depicts that t6heb art is derived from Gymnastics. In the United States it was brought in the 19th century and then gradually it took a back seat to the competitive sports after the battle of the systems following which, physical education systems were made mandatory in the United States. At present calisthenics mainly includes the sit- ups, push-ups and squats.

About Indoor Calisthenics:

There are a lot of calisthenics that can be performed indoors. The popular categories include the sit-ups and the crunches. One can start with the back on the floor and the knees bent. Placing bottoms of feet against the floor the shoulders is to be lifted by tightening the abdominal muscles and thus by bringing the chest closer to the knees. The back is then lowered back to the floor smoothly. Push-ups are also very familiar form of Calisthenics. One needs to start off by keeping the face downwards to the floor and the palms against the floor under the shoulders. Then keeping the toes curled up against the floor and then pushing upwards with the arms keeping the body in a straight line from the head to the tows. Also the head should be a little tilted in the forward direction and the back straight6 upwards.
