Exercises and Frozen Shoulder
Frozen shoulder is the adhesive capsulitis in the medical terminology. It is a disorder of the shoulder in which the movement of the shoulder is severely limited making the patient's routine activity impossible and inflicting terrible pain. The frozen shoulder disorder is mainly found in patients who have crossed their forties and it is hardly found in individuals under the age of forty. The reasons for this disorder are varied and depend mainly on the patient's past medical history. The tissues in the shoulder that join shoulder gets inflamed and they become hard and stiff which makes making movement impossibly hard and painful. As age grows the lubricating fluids of the bone joints in humans gets reduced and the bones start striking against each other that causes pain. If one is suffering from arthritis then he is more at the risk of getting a frozen shoulder. Other diseases include having diabetes, heart disease, or having suffered from a stroke. The right diagnosis of frozen shoulder is necessary for the early treatment of the stiff shoulder and a better management of pain.
Exercises for frozen shoulder
In many disorders of the bone joints doing exercises proves to be very relieving as it is always very helpful and keeps diseases at bay when one does exercises all his/her life. The condition in frozen shoulder gets aggravated when the patient tend to make less movement due to pain and the under use of the shoulder further worsens the frozen shoulder condition. In taking up exercises for frozen shoulder one should keep in mind the same situation when one is trying to clear knots in a badly entangled rope, such is the condition of the frozen shoulder. While doing exercises one has to be very gentle and should not be very hasty about going with the exercises. The exercises for frozen shoulder includes such movements like Shoulder Stretching Exercises, in which the patients can do 1.having the arm in the air when one is lying, 2. Rotating the arm while lying down, 3. Stretching the arm with the help of a pulley, 4. Stretching the arms across the body helps to lighten the pain and making the stiff tissues get a bit relaxed.
Shoulder strengthening exercises include the following
1. Shoulder shrugging
2. Stiff arm pulling
3. Two hand catch
4. Push ups by using a table
5. Internal rotation
6. External rotation of the shoulder
With the above exercises one can feel the pain in the shoulder but the movement helps to relax the stiff tissues of the shoulder.
