Dr. Dale Buchberger's Frozen Shoulder protocol

The frozen shoulder disorder is one of the many commonly found shoulder disorders. However the dislocated shoulder and other such conditions are mainly found in players, but the frozen shoulder disorder is the common ailment of the shoulder in individuals who are diabetic. Frozen shoulder happens because the tissue of capsule that surrounds the shoulder joint becomes inflamed and the natural elasticity of the muscle for elongation gets severely reduced. The contracture of the tissue restricts the patient from using his/her hand freely and in a painless manner. The patient's arms are immobilized and he is thus crippled. The frozen shoulder condition can affect only one shoulder or it can affect both the shoulders at the same time. Twenty to thirty percent individuals who have diabetes can get frozen shoulder. Hyperthyroidism, heart disease are other possible risk factors for a frozen shoulder.

What is the Dr. Buchberger's frozen shoulder protocol method?

Frozen shoulder is treated in a variety of way; it is treated with drugs in the conventional treatment, in other alternative treatment one has to take to natural food items to reduce toxins. Dr. Buchberger's frozen shoulder protocol is the Conservative Rehabilitation Program for the treatment of the frozen shoulder disorder. In this treatment Buchberger has included a three phase rehabilitation programme for the patient suffering from the frozen shoulder disorder. The protocol demands that the exercises in the phases be done in a cautious way so as to prevent excessive superior translation of the humeral head as joint ROM is restored. In the protocol Buchberger has listed eight factors that may affect the reduced motion of the humeral head in the rehabilitation for Frozen shoulder. He lists the factors like degree of shoulder contracture, Acute versus chronic condition, Performance and activity demands of the patient will also affect the rehabilitation of the frozen shoulder.

The three Phases of the protocol

Dr. Buchberger has outlined the three phases for his frozen shoulder rehabilitation protocol, he has described how the three phases need to be followed in order to relieve from the frozen shoulder condition. He says that the phases can be done in an overlapping manner as well which will entirely depend on the patient's progress in the exercises. Like he can do phase one then phase two then again the second phase before going onto the third phase.
