Frozen shoulder is called as adhesive capsulitis in medical terminology. The shoulder capsule, which is a connective tissue of the shoulder, gets hard and tightened causing severe pain during the movement of the shoulder and thus preventing the patient from carrying out his daily activities. The reason as to why the tissue gets inflamed and stiff are generally attributed to different reasons one of which includes injury to the tissues which makes the shoulder movement painful and causing restriction even to lift the shoulder. There are also the rheumatic conditions, which may affect the frozen shoulder, which grows in the rheumatic patients. Rheumatism is considered the main cause for giving frozen shoulder, since it involves the worsening of the joints of the bones causing really painful movement. If one has recently undergone surgery for his/her shoulder then frozen shoulder can surface. The unnatural growth of tissues in the glenohumeral joint of the shoulder also prevents the movement of the shoulder. The synovial fluid in the joints of the bones of the shoulder works as a natural lubricating fluid when it is not there or is not in sufficient quantity then the joints of the bones strike against each other causing pain and it gives frozen shoulder. Such patients who have diabetes, or had had a stroke, rheumatid arthritis and diseases of the lung and or who have heart disease are more prone to having a frozen shoulder. Patients who had been in accidents are also at a higher risk of getting frozen shoulder. The frozen shoulder disorder is mainly found in patients who have crossed their forties.

Diagnostic test for frozen shoulder

A physician may detect that the patient has a frozen shoulder by conducting his/her physical examination or from Arthrogram. The patient suffering from frozen shoulder is at a severe pain in making such simple and effortless movements like lifting his arm let alone using the shoulder for doing different daily activities. In the physical examination for diagnosing the frozen shoulder the physician has to take into account the patient's signs of the disease and he has to check the shoulder movement of the patient if it seems restricted and the patient cannot use his shoulder for the maximum movement then he can be diagnosed with a frozen shoulder.

Arthrogram diagnostic test for fro0zen shoulder

An arthrogram test is like a X-ray in which the patient is injected with a contrastive medium to detect the if there are any signs of frozen shoulder. This diagnostic test is done under giving the patient local anesthesia.
